Rejection into Blessing

When I turned 16, I think like most, I could not wait to drive! I had my car and I was ready to go. Except gas ain’t free and my mom and step-dad made it clear that neither was their money.

I would need to earn my own.

Great, I’ll get a job and be driving in no time I thought. I thought.. WRONG.

I started applying to jobs right away. McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Tractor supply, even to be a dishwasher at a Chinese restaurant.

All of which could have been great first jobs that I would have gladly accepted because I was going to get what I ultimately wanted…money.

Soooo 28 applications later, and 1 interview at McDonald’s, I was still jobless.

Rejected.

I felt awful. What was wrong with me that none of these places wanted me? Sure, I had no experience, but I was bubbly and eager to learn. I was willing to work weekends and closing shifts. What could I do different to get somewhere, someone to hire me?

Nothing.

There was nothing I could do different to stop the plans God had waiting for me. Thankfully, what we want and what God wants for us is usually always different. You see I believe rejection can be, and often is, a blessing in disguise. Sometimes a, “no” is because God has something better for you than you could have ever thought for yourself. That was definitely the case for me.

After several months I did a walk in interview and got my first job at Chick-Fil-A!

I could have not picked a better first job for myself. I learned so much, worked with great people in an awesome work environment.

It also set me up to get my second job when I went to college. Literally! At my second job interview they said you worked at Chick-Fil-A so you’re hired. I also ended up meeting my husband through my second job so thank you God for all the no’s that led me straight to what you already had planned for me.

Being rejected is hard, being told no is hard, but trust that God has something better waiting for you. That your no is leading to a better yes! Praise Jesus for that.
