Send Someone Else
Exodus 4:13 “But Moses said, ‘O Lord, please send someone else to do it.”
Wow. I opened my bible and these were the words God had waiting for me this morning. Words I’ve seen before, because I had it underlined, but words I never felt until today.
A little backstory about this verse in relation to Moses. God calls Moses from within a burning bush and tells him that he is sending him to bring the Israelites, his chosen people, out of Egypt. They go back and fourth a little bit. ( Yes. God literally came to Moses in the form of a burning bush telling him what do and yet Moses still had questions, he still had doubt, he was still.. human.)
Some of the things Moses said to God that I think we as humans in our flesh can relate to:
- Exodus 3: 11 “But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
- Exodus 4: 1 “Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me..”
God not only responds, but reassures Moses many times. He tells him, “I will be with you.” When Moses is doubting his-self, God tells him I will help you to speak and teach you what to say. (Exodus 4:12)
Have you ever felt the calling or the feeling to do something but felt you weren’t the right person for the job? Like someone else could do it better. Like maybe God should just choose or send someone else.
That was Moses.
That is me.
I have felt God calling me to do something for years now..
I’m actually embarrassed to say that. It has literally been years. I would start, and then doubt would take its place. The “what ifs” were pondered on and eventually they won out.
I felt unequipped and not the right person. But I’m reminded of this quote I once heard that says, “God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called.”
I’m no Moses. I don’t feel like I’m being called to a task so great as leading God’s chosen people out of Egypt. But I do know that I have been given a task to share and encourage when and where I can, with who I can. Because it is not about what I can do, but what he can do through me.
This is the same for all believers. We may doubt ourselves and our inabilities, but we must trust more in God’s abilities to work through us! Allow God to use you, for something he has made you specifically to do. Don’t ask him to send someone else when he has prepared the way for you! All you have to do is surrender and obey, and he will help you along the way.
